Discipline Equals Freedom

When you're a slave to your emotions, you can't get the things done that you need to get done.

When you're disciplined you do the things that you know you need to do in order to get the things that you really want to get done. And when you do the things that you know that you need to do, a day will come when you're able to do the things that you want to do.

Needing to do something and wanting to do it are not always the same thing. 

Happiness is not pleasure, happiness is victory.

I had someone tell me once that she was not undisciplined, she just couldn't bring herself to do things that she doesn't want to do. I shared that with people and they thought it was funny because that is exactly what being undisciplined is. If you say, "I don't do the things that I know that I should do. But not that I'm undisciplined it's just that I don't like to do them."

Well, undisciplined is precisely what that is!  We live in a world that is completely clueless about what self-discipline is.

Having self-control is able to not do things that are harmful and to do the things that are not necessarily pleasurable in sight of a greater outcome.

 The individuals that are consumed with pleasure will also be consumed by it.
 
Their passions will consume and annihilate them.

You can't just trust in the things that you want to do. You can't just do everything that this brain wants to do because it is not designed to keep you happy, it's designed to keep you alive. Happiness comes from the heart.

When you're disciplined, you don't eat what you want to eat so that you can be healthy. You may say, "that's just willpower." Some of it may be willpower but a lot of it is just changing your beliefs.

You see, when I started to change my beliefs around food and I started to see food as not necessarily an emotion or pleasure but rather something that affects my energy levels, it had a totally different meaning to me. 

 It's not that I don't think that chocolate cake tastes good. It's that I know that it's going to immediately, in the present, cause a crash that's going to prohibit me from doing the things that I really need to do, that I really want to do.

So in that way I resist the chocolate cake. Its not that I am saying to myself that it doesn't taste good because everybody knows that it does.

 Lying to yourself doesn't work. You've got to change the meaning. Self-discipline gets you the things that you want. Your goals are on the others side of self-discipline. Somebody says, " I don't like to prospect!" Well, who likes it, right? But you prospect until you get to the place to where you can pay somebody else to prospect.

There's a difference between a job and a career. In a job you get paid to do something that somebody doesn't want to do. 

That's why they pay you.

Maybe you like to do it, maybe you don't.

But until you can pay somebody to do what you don't like to do, you have to do it if you want to accomplish your goals.

 If you would just do the things, you would get the results. If you would just contact the right amount of people, if you would go to the gym, if you would resist the foods.... all things that are self-control, self discipline related, you would get the results. 

 The sales person says,  "I want to make all these sales and help all these people, but I'm not gonna prospect." "I don't have any money for marketing but I'm not willing to prospect." Well, I can't help you.

 You can't accomplish things if you're not willing to do the work.

That is like a farmer saying that I want a crop but I hate going out on the fields to do the groundwork. It's like somebody standing by the stove and saying,  "I want a great meal but I hate to cook."

 You have to do things that you don't always want to do for pleasure to get the things that you really want to get.
 
When you do the things that you need to do, when you need to do them, a day will come when you can do the things that you want to do, when you want to do them.

 You'll be a person that can resist things that are pleasurable but aren't good for the totality of your life and vision.

That is self discipline and that's the way you can have the life you want to have and be the way you want to be.
